BYB’s R Mini Puppy Mills asked:

The HSUS says that 3-4 million animals are killed in shelters each year. Another study says that 2 million of these are dogs.

I’ve seen people on here complaining about how the adoption fees at shelters are too high. That a ‘loving home’ should be enough to get a dog from a shelter. My question – should it be?

1. Say the dog gets sick in 2 years and the new ‘loving home’ can’t afford vet care. Is 2 years of happiness better than having been euthanized?

2. Should a shelter lower the adoption fee if someone can prove annual pet insurance on the dog? How would it be enforced?

3. Would lowering the adoption fee actually get more dogs out of the shelters? Or would it be the same because the second the dog gets sick, it will be back in the shelter?

Thanks!

?®¥š‡? ?? ??Crysti asked:

This dog tugs at my heart for some reason. I think it is because I am an interpreter for the deaf at my church or maybe it’s because I have such a soft spot for animals.

Do you ever wish you could do more for the dogs in need?

Do you ever feel overwhelmed at how many animals there are that would make WONDERFUL pets but have noone to help them reach their potential?

none7 asked:

My pet goldfish Lou went to the Bahamas with his wife and triplets, and they caught some humans there and played with them, and liked it.
Then they came home and wanted to get a pet human, and ended with getting a couple.
The humans were fun to watch for the first two weeks, then they started quarrelling about things, and most – about the thing called “remote”, and the male drinks a lot of beer and says bad words in the presence of the triplets.
Is there a way to get rid of them? Put them to adoption, maybe? If so, would anyone here willing to adopt?

horselady asked:

I just recently got 2 2-month old puppies (had them for 5 days). I just heard about a little kitty that’s available for adoption at my local shelter, heard it’s very friendly and would make great pet. If nobody will adopt it until Thursday they will put it to sleep. I really would love to have this kitty. Could there be potential problems with that and the puppies? How would it be best to introduce them?

Patient Paws asked:

Wouldn’t you think that with todays technological advances, and how many people look online before going out for a pet, that shelters would update more frequently?

I understand its a bit time consuming, but the shelter I volunteer at has the number one adoption rate and the lowest ‘kill rate’ in the NKY area, don’t you think that says something about the use of the internet?

Gizzy asked:

I have a 4 year old male himalyan. I adopted him about 3 years ago from a shelter. On his adoption paperwork it states he is good with other animals, but for the past three years it has been only him. Now I want to adopt another cat, but I am not sure how accepting my curret pet will be. Any suggestions on how to introduce another into my home? Oh and my current cat was declawed in the front when I got him, so I am a little worried about fighting.
