i was wondering what type of lizard would be good for a pet. a website with info and if can eat mice. also can it be housed in a 46 gallon tank. im 13 and this is my first pet.
Since this is your first pet, I’m going to recommend lizards that are relatively easy to care for, relatively easy to handle, not too expensive (and let’s not forget they look pretty cool too!).
My first choice would be a leopard gecko. They don’t get too big, and a 46 gallon tank would be more than enough for a happy little gecko. These guys are also quite docile and don’t mind being handled. A friend of mine has one that will sit on her shoulder while she watches TV or does homework, even! They don’t eat mice – the main live foods they eat are crickets and mealworms. is a good site to get the basics on what they need and how to care for them.
Also very cool critters are bearded dragons. They get bigger and (for lack of a better word) more impressive looking, and are also quite docile. They get a lot bigger than the geckos, but still not very big compared to some reptiles. Their maximum size is around a foot and a half. Your tank should still be big enough to accomodate your beardie even at full size. They are omnivores and like lots of fresh veggies, but also eat crickets, many different kinds of worms and some other insects. Has tons of info about their care and such.
As long as you’re prepared to take good care of them, these lizards make great pets. Good luck with whatever critter you choose to get!!
I’m a father, godfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend, neighbor, teammate, and co-worker. I am endeavoring to bring together a large body of helpful information on the subject of pets. I’m not shy, so you are invited to tell me what you think. Feel free to share and to disagree with me, but please keep it civil.
