Kristen asked:

I just got my hamster today, and when I went to the pet shop, there were 3 other hamsters in it. Does she miss her friends? Is she lonely?

No. Syrian (or “teddy bear”) hamsters are solitary creatures and WILL kill each other once they reach sexual maturity if you try to keep two adults in the same cage. Dwarf hamsters are often social and will often live in small family groups, but even dwarf hamsters really don’t mind a solitary existence (and some prefer it).

Hamsters are solitary animals who usually only socialise with other hamsters during the breeding season, so she will prefer to be alone anyway. And if you keep her company she shouldn’t be lonely at all.

Aw hun your so sweet, I doubt she does, especially if she is a syrian hamster, you know the big kind, they like to live on their own and fight with other hamsters. The dwarf kind sometimes get on with other hamsters but they don’t miss other hamsters. Their happy to have their own space. But your a very sweet girl to think about your hamster in that way, your hammie has a great home with you..x

hamsters don’t have a long memory span so i’d say no she doesn’t miss them. if you give her a lot of attention then she should be fine and happy.

Maybe you can let her email her old hamster buddies. Just make sure you’re nice to her, or she’ll rat you out. :)
