Should I purchase pet insurance for my new Japanese Chin puppy?

cruziecruz asked:

My fiance and I plan on getting a Japanese Chin within 4-5 weeks. If I were to purchase Pet Insurance, would I be saving money in the long run? I seek guidance on this issue. Thanks.

How pet insurance works is that it is a reimbursement program. You are still responsible for the vet bill up front and are repaid once you file a claim. I believe it would be beneficial for such an expensive dog and it is good safety net in case something bad happens.

Congrats on your cute little guy. Don’t forget to get him or her microchipped. That way if the little girl/guy gets out he/she can get home.

It kind of depends. Diffrent insurances cover diffrent things. Some cover every trip to the vet, others have high deductables and only help with really big vet bills. If you know what vet you plan to use, a visit to talk to him would be in order. Some vets have started to recomened certain insurance, and will help you with paper work, ect. Check several diffrent companies for diffirent coverage, some even cover dental work now. Also talking to your breeder to see what health problems she has had, make sure they are covered, too. This is a very smart idea, but it is a little new, checking it over well is smart!

i spent 700.00 at an emergency vet on a sunday once on my dog because she got into some medication, and if i had insurance, i would have been covered.
