Does pet insurance cover regular vet bills?

Or only incidents? I’m trying to find out if pet insurance covers regular visits to the vet like health insurance where you only pay the co pay and then your insurance pays the rest, how does that work?

It depends on what kind of policy you get. Typically, you get partial reimbursement for things like checkups, shots, heartworm tests and preventatives, dental cleanings, neutering-the routine stuff. You pay up front, and the company sends you a check for a portion of what you spent. They usually will pay a set amount for any given service, and you pay the difference between that set amount and what the vet charges. Emergencies are usually covered, with a deductible or co-pay depending on the policy. The co-pay may be a straight dollar amount or a percentage of the total bill. You can get policies that only cover emergency care, the premiums are cheaper but you don’t get reimbursed for routine care.

like every other form of insurance you get whay you pay for. i once went to a pet exhibit and had 12 different pet insurance plans offered to me. Some cheaper plans just cover emergencies the thought being you can cover regular costs like check-ups and shots.
other plans (the more expensive plans) can cover EVERYTHING from shots to medication to flea treatment, vet costs, teeth cleaning as well as emergency surgery if needed.
basically you get what you pay for and it pays to shop around for a plan your comfortable with paying

Some vets accept insurance. Most vets who have integrity and a relationship with you will work out a plan. Insurance for your pet seems smart but in my experience is as much of a heist as regular health insurance. If you can afford it…you can probably afford the treatment. It does not help with elective, experimental or most preventative care.
