What kind of pet insurance is the best? I’m thinking of getting Banfield?

Virginia asked:

Which pet insurance do you recommend and how much does it cost? I have a 3 year old, 14pound lhasa apso.

Thank you!!

  1. Pet insurance is usually great for puppies because they have to go tothe vet often. As far as older dogs there is really no need for pet insurance since you take them once a year.

  2. this is not insurance it is a wellness plan. it isn’t worth it after the first year and getting the spay/neuter.

  3. I prefer to get Pet Care INS. then I can choose any vet I want and not have to go to Pets Mart. They change vets to often for my taste around here (Missouri )

  4. Banfield is a total rip off. They want you to give your dog a bunch of unnecessary vaccines, and their prices are ( at least where i live ) 4 times as much as any other vet. I work with dogs and have heard many complaints of banfield telling people either dogs needed treatments that they really didn’t need. I went there ONE time because they were the only place open and had just got a puppy mill rescue dog. They tried to tell me the dog had all this stuff wrong with it and needed all these treatments that were expensive and kept pushing me and pushing me and tring to sell me stuff I didn’t need. I took the papers to my regular vet that next Monday and my vet examined the dog and said they were full of crap and just trying to get money out of me. ONE of the things they said was my dog had a grade 4 luxated patella and needs $1500 surgery, they diagnosed this with no xrays nothing. My vet did xrays there is NOTHING wrong with the dogs knees at all. I have heard similar stories from other people as well as experienced it first hand.

  5. You may try to google it,here has some direct resource that might be helpful.
