Purebred and shelter kittens?
cocamoo island asked:
I am getting a purebred kitten in three months. The kitten I bought was VERY expensive and I don’t know if I can afford a second kitten from this litter. I was wandering If I could get a second kitten from the shelter for a playmate for him. Would this be O.K.? Should It be a older cat or another kitten similar in age?
Ok Melissa, why don’t YOU just get it! If I choose to BUY a cat then thats my decision. Get over it!
A Purebred is what I want, that what I’ll get.

It would be perfectly fine.
I would suggest a kitten in similar age to match his energy, though,
as not all older cats are too friendly with younger playmates.
Congratulations on your new cat!
Why don’t some of you people get it!?! Don’t get a purebred, just get 2 from a shelter. Have some humanity, please!
a kitten of similar age the older cat will only sleep and wont play or bond but a kitten will be more active and bond more even if they are from different litters and if you get a sheltered cat thats 1 more that wont be killed
why on earth did you pay a lot of money when there are loads of healthy cats and kittens desperate for a home if you get a rescue cat you will find that out of the two it is much nicer then the purebred
hi ….. I would get a kitten around the same age from the shelter.. they can’t tell the differance between one another.
A shelter kitten should be fine. Just one word of warning, make sure that the kitten from the breeder is healthy (no intestinal parasites, no upper respiratory, no fleas, no ringworm, FIV/FeLV negative, etc) BEFORE you bring home the shelter kitten. And KEEP THEM SEPARATED for at least a week until you are sure that the kitten from the shelter is also healthy and didn’t bring home any parasites or viruses to share with the other kitty. This means completely, totally separated. I would go with a kitten similar in age or at least a very young adult cat as older cats are often not very tolerant of kitten rough housing.
I think its a great idea. Cats love having playmate and kittens tend to get along better with other kittens because they are naturally curious. If you bring them home around the same time, you won’t necessarily have to separate them. Let them get used to each other (they might swat at one another, maybe hiss a little, but they’ll be fine) and then they can explore the house together.
As for people yelling at you for buying a purebred…there are how many kids in foster care?? People are still allowed to have babies, so why can’t cats? Seriously…you people need to get your priorities straight. If any of you have given birth to children I could easily start crucifying you for not caring about the thousands of homeless and parentless children in the world.
Get a kitten from a shelter, it won’t hurt the pure bred it’s not like it’s a peasant and royalty! :)
Yes, please get them the same gender, and age. It will make them more fun for each other! :D
Congratulations on the kittens! :)
if you just want two either get 2 of the same genader or get them fixed but i think that would be great they would not be lonly
