I don't have a Meine Coon but from my experience with my oh-so-adorabe Persian all the interesting sound effects end when you play with your cat before going to sleep (so he gets tired enough and leave and open bag and a box with a "surprise" (something that the cat will find intriguing) inside

I am so sorry for you!!! I know how it is. I have a siamese manx that does the same thing every morning. Half the time Iggie is just lonely even though there are 4 other cats in the house. I have to get up and pick him up and put him in the bed with me. He'll lay down and fall asleep. But., there are times he goes into the bathroom and howls in the shower or tub. Half the time I think he likes to hear his own voice. I just started to try to treat him like a toddler. When he cries I pick him up and put him in bed and other times and call his name and he'll come and howl some more and I'll call his name until he jumps on the bed. I have noticed that when I started to put him in bed he lessened the howling at least 75% of the time.

My 5 all do the same thing. If I answer them in the same tone or call them then thay come and cuddle and settle down. Sometimes I think they are just saying "hellooo, anyone there?" or "come play with me!" Mine are also saying " feed me dang it! I don't care what time it is!"

Some cats are just lively at night but there may be a reason for his yelling. See if you can try to figure out what he wants. Is he hungry? His previous owner may have gotten up early to feed him and he is trying to tell you it's time to eat. Maybe he is bored, cats are nocturnal, try keeping a toy next to your bed and when he starts up throw the toy to distract him. It can be many different reasons you just have to try and see what it is that is making him do that or what you can do to change things so he is distracted from yelling.

You can get it a friend to play with, often this stops howling because they are busy and have a companion. The ****** bottle will help but your cat is probably looking for companionship.

too bad it was fixed, you could make a lot of $$ with a maine coon. do you have a basement or something? Do you have a ****** bottle? If you have a small ****** bottle, put a little water in it and every time the cat howls, ****** it. the cat will get the idea that you don't like it.

Cats are night time animals...my cats run around and howl too. I think it's cute..it's not enough to wake me...

And I would NEVER put cats/dogs outside w/o a fence or some type of enclosure..that's just asking for trouble.

It is totally natural for your cat to do this. Find it a good home if it's that bad....and don't adopt any more animals...you have to be prepared for anything.
