ferrets are what is illegal, not the ferret food or other products. There are many people fighting to make them legal, its not a myth. :) when caught theres usually a large fine, and these days the department of fish and game normally allow you to find placement out of state before euthinizing them.

police can enter your home so long as they have a warrent. If you are reported or sighted by an officer or person with DF & G then they will either to take him away and you say “warrent?” if there isn’t one say goodbye. it will give you enough time to move the ferret to a safe house.

Most people know that ferrets are still being kept as pets in CA, even though they are illegal. The pet shops know it and the vets know it and both are willing to provide services for the ferret owners (I think the pet shops just do it for the extra money; the vets do it because most of them support the legalization of ferrets and are more than willing to help a ferret in need). Besides, it’s only illegal to own a ferret, it’s not illegal to buy and sell ferret products.

Because many people keep them illegally…they are legal in surrounding states such as Nevada and Arizona…so many people obtain them there and bring them back to California. Many vets in California treat ferrets as well. If there is a demand for something (ferret products and care) and if profit is involved…the need will be met.

owning a ferret is illegal, but not owning ferret products. it could be getting bought for someone out of state or to be used for a pet other than a ferret (like a guinea pig or a bird); it could be bought by someone who actually has a license to have a ferret (like an organization designated by the state as being a place that is allowed to take seized ferrets for transporting them out of cali).

plus the pet stores acknowledge that there is large underground ownership of ferrets in california and provide them with necessary products. again, it’s not illegal to sell or buy products designs for ferrets, just to have the animal itself.

when i was in south carolina years ago, it was illegal to do a tattoo on someone, but not illegal to get one. no one said legislature was ever based in common sense. :-)

I don’t know but if you want a ferret just keep it in your back room my friend does that exept she keeps it under her bed o her Gran doesn’t see it because she think she got rid of it

I was told by Petco that even though they are illegal in Ca they arent in other states and Ca people do love their ferrets so they will supply food, treats and cages. Some day soon there will not be illegal. Ive owned one for 2 yrs now.
