What if you found a kitten with pitch black eyes?

ailona5 asked:

The kitten eyes were complete black. Unlike the other kittens that showed blue pupils in their eyes, one kitten showed no color but just black eyes. Also when he was outsides for a while, he would squint his eyes.

It could just be the way his eyes are reacting to the light he’s in or his fur color. Other then that my only thing is maybe he’s blind. If you’re concerned about it I think you should see your vet or at least call them up and talk to them about it.

well i’m not sure about cats, but i know that in people the absence of an iris is a disease called aniridia..
    and that can cause blindness…
if you can, i think you should take the kitten to a vet..

Either there is no iris present, or he has extreme pupil dilation, which can be due to either a neurologic problem or an ocular problem. I’d definitely recommend taking him to a vet.

One of those animal planet heroes shows had a cat that had completely dilated pupils. They said it either makes the cat blind or have blurry vision. Check to see if the kitten is walking into things instead of around them. And definitely have him checked out by a vet.

Oh, and to one of the above posters, my grey and white cat has brown eyes. Before her, I too had never seen a kitty with brown eyes. It looks strange.

The kittens eyes may not have developed properly. I’d take it to the vet and have it checked out.

This kitten needs to go to the vet and not go outside. I wouldn’t be surprised if it couldn’t see very well and could only distinguish light and dark. You need a vet.
