Seeing as you don’t say where you are in Wisconsin, I can only tell you about Milwaukee stores. Aquatics Unlimited in Milwaukee often have them. Hoffer’s does also, but they’re quite expensive.

Otherwise, check the girls at Walmart, they are very often boys.

They are called Plakats and if you look carefully in the female betta tanks you will see some males.

They look the same but the males will be the aggressive ones in the tank and will NOT show vertical bars near another betta.

You can also buy from ebay cheaply.

Your best bet is to try Aquabid.com or to go to smaller petstores that can special order fish, though you’ll have a hard time finding anyone who can order you Plakat Betta.
If your looking for something locally look at the female betta, a lot of times Plakats get mixed in with them accidentally. Males are more robust and have smoother looking fins. You’re also looking for thicker, longer ventral fins, a large dorsal fin, and an elongated **** fin.
