How do you feel about pet shops and people who sell animals in general?

3cats asked:

Do you think it is acceptable for people to profit from the sale of an animal? If so, why?

really i think it is better than killing one or abonding one.

I think it is acceptable if they take care of the animals properly before it leaves their hand that they aren’t selling sick animals and that they are healthy. Plus they are making future pet owners happy.

Welcome to the world, I guess. I’m torn on this issue. I absolutely **** the large corporately owned petstores that claim to be able to take care of your animal better than God himself. Mostly because they have highly trained and tested teenagers working there that would rather cheat on the tests and lie to the customers than do any actual work (worked in one briefly…speaking from experience here). However, I don’t mind the small family-owned pet stores that have been in the business forever and really do know what they’re talking about. I have a fishstore near me run by a guy who had a degree in ichthiology (study of fish) and his fish are the healthiest I’ve ever seen or owned. Ever.

So, I guess if the animals are being treated all right, it makes things a little better.

There are some animals that I feel should never be sold in a petstore, no matter what kind of care they’re getting. Like dogs and cats.

There are many unscrupulous breeders and sellers of pets. Petshops often do NOT know how to care for the animals in their care and the animals suffer. Breeders in puppy mills suffer horribly and are thrown away when they die from lack of care. The owners of puppy mills should be prosecuted.

Millions of unwanted/abused/neglected animals are euthanized in the USA every year. Stop breeding and selling animals. Bobbie

Well, I think it is acceptable because these are not wild animals they are selling. If nobody owned non-wild animals, they would get endangered or extincted. I would not want cats and horses and dogs and bunnies and all the other non-wild animals to run out.
