    There are a number of pet insurance agencies authorized to conduct business in the Garden State. They are:

    * (Veterinary Pet Insurance)
    * (PetCare Pet Insurance)
    * (Pets Health Pet Insurance)
    * (Embrace Pet Insurance)

    At 6 to 12 months old your dog is a good age to get insured. She probably has few or no pre-existing conditions so your coverage is likely to be broader than an older dog, just like you’d find with individual health insurance in people.

    Depending on where you live in New Jersey (upstate where it’s realllly expensive or downstate where it’s just expensive) you might want to think twice about Veterinary Pet Insurance as their limited benefit schedule could leave you with a large chunk of the bill. For example, VPI’s Superior Plan only pays out a maximum of $395 for rat poison ingestion – treatment alone for this can easily cost $1,500+ in an emergency vet clinic so you’re not getting much bang for your buck.

    As always, ask lots of good questions and go with the company that you feel you can trust to treat you and your baby like pet parents.
