Or you could look in the classifieds in your newspaper.
And I’m sure they have pet stores at your local mall.

i would find an animal shelter instead because some of them kill the pets that have been there for a long time. Save a life!

Don’t buy from a pet shop. Those dogs are not healthy and not socialized. A lot of dogs from pet shops get really sick and you’ll end up paying a lot of vet bills. Also pet shop puppies are very over priced. Also very often they will lie to you. They will tell you you are getting a pure bread dog, when it’s really a mutt.
Try checking at your local animal shelter. They have young puppies very often. A lot of times they will already come with their shots and be fixed, and if not the shelter might be able to do if for cheap. Puppies from a shelter do not cost much (where I live in Florida, it’s only about $50 dollars)
Also check out the ads in your local newspaper. there are usually a lot of people selling puppies.

FIRST OF ALL – DO NOT GET IT FROM A PET SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS AN INCREASED CHANCE OF IT COMING FROM A PUPPY MILL!!!!!!!!!! there fore increasing its chance for sickness and possible death!!!!!!! which is heart breaking and expensive!!! i would suggest getting it from your local pet shelter or a breeder! the prices are lower and their chances of life are much higher!!!

Look in the newspaper but check out your local animal shelters. It would be cheaper than a pet store and you could still get a puppy from there, plus you’d be rescuing.
And um, in a pet store you might not get the healthiest puppy, which could lead to expensive vet bills.

Let me tell it to you straight:
If a pet store sells puppies or kittens, it is NOT a good pet store. That should be your bottom line as you are looking for a new dog.
If you walk in to a pet store and it has puppies for sale, run away as fast as you possibly can!!
Any puppy sold in a pet store no doubt came from a puppy mill.

So today’s lesson is:
If you buy a puppy from a pet store, no matter how freaking cute it is, you are supporting puppy mills and therefore allowing them to continue their selfish acts, NOT TO MENTION you are allowing them to continue to imprison the mother of the dog you bought to continue to be used as a breeding machine!!!!!
So, please, do not buy from a pet store, ever.
Oh and also, just so you know, puppies are expensive. Even if you adopt from a shelter or rescue group, ALL DOGS come with expenses.
The food, vet bills, vaccines, toys, supplies, grooming, beds, etcetera all adds up.
If you cannot afford an “expensive” puppy, you cannot afford to have a dog.

I have heard alot of puppies sold at pet shops, could possibly come from puppy mills! The dogs are not always treated very well, and the puppies could have health issues. They could also have been inbred! Which may cause some problems for the puppies. Most puppies sold at pet shops are very expensive.
I would look for a local breeder, and go there, and see all the parent dogs, and access the situation. I think you would have a better chance of getting a healthy puppy!
Also you could look at animal shelters, and save a puppy!

Please do not buy a puppy from a pet shop. The vast majority of petstores get their dogs from puppy mills. Puppy mills have horrid conditions for their dogs, and breed low-quality animals (many times with sicknesses or genetic disorders). ** No reputable breeder will sell their puppies through a 3rd party! **
Although you may think buying a petstore puppy is “rescuing” it, it is actually only giving the puppymills more opportunity to sell another dog, thus supporting and continuing the sad cycle.

Seek out a reputable breeder, a breed rescue, or an animal shelter. You will end up with a healthier dog, and you will not be supporting the puppymill industry.

If you live in NY (near Port Washington) .. there is a shelter called North Shore Animal League America. They ALWAYS have puppies of all shapes, sizes and colors! Why not rescue a dog in dire need of a home?

NEVER EVER buy from a pet shop! These come from puppy mills and will most likely end up dying within a couple of months (possibly a week), it has happened TOO many times. Why risk that chance?

None. Pet stores are where they sell dogs that come either from puppy mills, or from breeders who need to dump some “undesirable” pups.
Breeders sell their pure-bred pups cheaper than most pet stores. The breeders do it out of passion for their breed, the stores are a business.
If you want inexpensive, look in the Yellow Pages for shelters, breed clubs and rescue clubs. All with have lovely dogs that need homes.

NO pet shop is good and no one should ever get their puppy or kitten from a pet shop. Google “puppy mill” to read more, educate yourself.

There aren’t any.
“Good pet shop” and “sells puppies” are two mutually exclusive concepts.
Like “good parent” and “child abuser.”
Pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills and other breeders who don’t care where their puppies end up and therefore do not spend a great deal of time and energy making sure the pups are healthy in the long term. They don’t screen for genetic health problems, they don’t properly socialize the puppies, they overbreed the moms and they ship the puppies way too young.
What many puppy mills do is tantamount to animal cruelty and abuse to most reasonable people.
Please do not buy a puppy from a pet store and give more money to people who mistreat animals.
