What is a good pet for a seven year old who lives in an apartment?

sceptileptic asked:

What would be a good pet for a seven (soon to be eight) year old girl that would be comfortable in an apartment? Something that is caged some of the time and not loud would be great, any suggestions?

    fish are great pets

gerbils, mice and hampsters smell and are nocturnal.

    Guinea Pigs are wonderful.
Get 2 and they’ll be happy with cage time and lap time. They’re sweet, cuddly and surprisingly funny.
This is a great site, cool stuff, good care info and a genius cage idea.

Believe it or not, rats make excellent pets. They’re quiet, smart, learn tricks, cuddle and play. They like people are are usually very sweet.

Cockatiels are good pets. They can take a little longer to tame, but they’re smart and affectionate.

Russian Tortoises and Chinese Box Turtles aren’t super affectionate, but they’re fun and have great personalites.

Rabbits and chinchillas are marginally affectionate. They like doing their own thing more than they like being lap pets. They are entertaining and fun, just not super cuddly.

a goldfish. 7 year olds don’t need responsibility like that.

hamsters are fun for young children and they can hold them.
